About this event

Class description:

Classes will be approximately 60 minutes. Each class will have a variety of postures that are mostly done sitting or lying on a mat. Postures are held for up to 5 minutes with an average hold time of 4 minutes with no requirement that any posture is held for the duration of the time. Attendees are invited to participate in some breathing and general mindfulness.

Yin Yoga targets the fascial tissues, ligaments and tendons. On the most physical level each posture helps to lengthen and strengthen the connective tissue in the body. Most postures assist in the movement of the fascia. Some postures will encourage lubricating fluids to flush and be replaced.

On a deeper level the facial tissues in the body have neural cells like the brain that "remember" trauma to help keep the body safe (fight/flight mode). Longer holds combined with breathwork has been shown to relax these body memories. Relaxing the body memory does not require re-living the experience. It may, however, manifest a change to the overall anxiety level experienced by the attendee.

Some very simple mindfulness practices drawn from a variety of meditation traditions may be woven in the class. None of the practices are required and all are done silently. Most attendees find the practices helpful. Most people find that an hour-long class passes quickly, not believing 60 minutes have flown by.
